Difference Between Cabin Air Filters and Engine Air Filters

Your vehicle is made up of various components, and each one of these components plays a vital role in the overall performance of your vehicle. Even the smallest parts, from your windshield wipers, ensures you reach your destination safely and smoothly. Two of these vital components are your cabin air filter and engine air filter, but what exactly is the difference between the two?

Your engine air filter is located under your vehicle's hood, usually near the engine's front. Your engine air filter is responsible for keeping small particles and dust out of your engine's intake. Engines work at high speeds under hot temperatures, and even the smallest amount of dust or dirt can wreak havoc on your other major components in your vehicle. Eventually, your engine air filter will need to be cleaned or changed. A clogged engine air filter can lead to decreased performance, increased emission, and poor fuel economy.

The main difference between your cabin air filter and your engine air filter is that your engine air filter protects your engine, and your cabin air filter protects you! Your cabin air filter is located between the engine compartment and your passenger cabin. They filter out any particles, mold spores, allergens, or other contaminants from entering your cabin. Even though your cabin air filter might not affect your vehicle's performance, a clogged cabin air filter can affect the quality of air in your cabin. You might find yourself dealing with musty smells and symptoms of allergies!

With Spring almost here and the number of particles in the air increases, it is the perfect time to bring your vehicle to our shop. Our team will carefully examine both of your filters to make sure any harmful contaminants don't reach your engine or cabin.
